Growing up, Jason worked at a private country club in Southern Ontario as a back-shop attendant, which is where he was first introduced to the game of golf and developed a passion for the landscape the game was played on. It wasn’t long before the smell of fresh-cut grass and the sound of machinery lured his attention to the turfgrass maintenance side of this wonderful business. After a few summers at the club he decided to attend the Turfgrass Management Program at the University of Guelph and then a further and more in-depth Turfgrass education at the Penn State University in State College Pennsylvania. After an Internship at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford New York, he obtained an assistant superintendent position at Point O’ Woods G&CC in Benton Harbor, Michigan, host of numerous Western Amateur events. These two positions were key learning experiences as the focus in both roles was a balance between maintenance and golf course construction, with projects that included green construction, irrigation installation, and major drainage installation, along with a variety of other course improvements. It was these past experiences that secured Jason’s position of golf course superintendent with Marriott International, managing and renovating the course at Red Leaves known as “The Rock.”
Since 2009, Deer Ridge Golf Club has been Jason’s passion as he has manicured the landscape in the picturesque Grand River Valley. He and his team have completed many projects at the club and he looks forward to the continued maintenance of this wonderful Tom McBroom–designed course.
Life outside of work is busy as well and Jason is blessed to have a wonderful and supportive wife as well as twin boys that are very busy. His family is very active and welcomes each new day as an adventure. He enjoys watching his boys grow and become involved in sports and teaches them that integrity, honesty, and hard work are the most important values that one can achieve. If there are any spare moments left in the day, Jason will find a country road to take his motorcycle out for a ride.
